Parasite Eve just like it's antagonist burrowed into my brain and would not let me rest until I completed this story. It's a good book, I found I could not put it down as it was so addictive. I must warn anyone wanting to read this book that there are explicit rape scenes in it and that are very very graphic.Īll in all I suppose the book did it's job, it made me feel a range of emotions from curiosity, sadness, satisfaction ,horror, and disgust. However this descriptive writing also has the downside of doing it's job a little too well in some scenes which are utterly disgusting. I was able to feel the intense greif that the parents of Kiyomi felt when she died. The characters in Parasite eve feel incredibly real and tangible, in how they interact with one another and express emotion. At multiple points in the book did I tear up and even cried from the exhibition of raw human emotion. Parasite Eve is very good at making you feel exactly what the characters are feeling.
The presentation of this research in conjunction with this mitochondrial takeover makes it seem all the more possible to happen. Alot of research was put into Parasite Eve and that I'd what I think makes the book special and the more terrifying. Hideaki Sena is a pharmocological scientist who works with cells and mitochondria are his bread and butter. But for a first I have to say it wasn't bad. I would have to say it's probably my first body horror piece of media I've consumed, as I've been reluctant to explore this genre. I appreciate the detail with which the book explains story, context, and relevant information. What then transpires is a rollercoaster of a story, quickly escalating into body horror alien madness.
The book explains that mitochondria are a parasite that initially entered the human cell to destroy it but then entered into a symbiotic relationship with the nucleus, providing us with energy. Parasite Eve is about mitochondria basically taking back their throne and deciding to take over humanity. But I feel that sentence doesn't do it justice. If I were to summarize the book in as little words as possible I would say it's a biology textbook interspliced with gnarly ,raunchy ,body horror.
I recently came to discover the Parasite Eve game series and finding out that it was based on a book I decided to read it for extra context before playing the game. Parasite Eve (1995), author: Hideaki Sena.
